2009-09-24sound: oxygen: work around MCE when changing volumeClemens Ladisch
commit f1bc07af9a9edc5c1d4bdd971f7099316ed2e405 upstream. When the volume is changed continuously (e.g., when the user drags a volume slider with the mouse), the driver does lots of I2C writes. Apparently, the sound chip can get confused when we poll the I2C status register too much, and fails to complete a read from it. On the PCI-E models, the PCI-E/PCI bridge gets upset by this and generates a machine check exception. To avoid this, this patch replaces the polling with an unconditional wait that is guaranteed to be long enough. commit 6148b130eb84edc76e4fa88da1877b27be6c2f06 upstream. Fix minimum period size for cs46xx cards. This fixes a problem in the case where neither a period size nor a buffer size is passed to ALSA; this is the case in Audacious, OpenAL, and others. 2009-09-08sound: pcm_lib: fix unsorted list constraint handlingClemens Ladisch
commit b1ddaf681e362ed453182ddee1699d7487069a16 upstream. snd_interval_list() expected a sorted list but did not document this, so there are drivers that give it an unsorted list. To fix this, change the algorithm to work with any list. This fixes the "Slave PCM not usable" error with USB devices that have multiple alternate settings with sample rates in decreasing order, such as the Philips Askey VC010 WebCam. http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14028 Reported-and-tested-by: Andrzej <adkadk@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Clemens Ladisch <clemens@ladisch.de> Signed-off-by: Takashi Iwai <tiwai@suse.de> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2009-09-08ALSA: hda - Fix MacBookPro 3,1/4,1 quirk with ALC889ATakashi Iwai
commit a3f730af7e33cea10ea66f05b2565fde1f9512df upstream. This patch fixes the wrong headphone output routing for MacBookPro 3,1/4,1 quirk with ALC889A codec, which caused the silent headphone output. Also, this gives the individual Headphone and Speaker volume controls. commit 8de56b7deb2534a586839eda52843c1dae680dc5 upstream. The master mute switch is wrongly implemented as checking the pointer instead of its value, thus it can be never muted. 2009-07-30ALSA: ca0106 - Fix the max capture buffer sizeTakashi Iwai
commit 34fdeb2d07102e07ecafe79dec170bd6733f2e56 upstream. The capture buffer size with 64kB seems broken with CA0106. At least, either the update timing or the DMA position is wrong, and this screws up pulseaudio badly. This patch restricts the max buffer size less than that to make life a bit easier. 2009-07-30sound: usb-audio: add workaround for Blue Microphones devicesClemens Ladisch
commit 8886f33f25083a47d5fa24ad7b57bb708c5c5403 upstream. Blue Microphones USB devices have an alternate setting that sends two channels of data to the computer. Unfortunately, the descriptors of that altsetting have a wrong channel setting, which means that any recorded data from such a device has twice the sample rate from what would be expected. This patch adds a workaround to ignore that altsetting. Since these devices have only one actual channel, no data is lost. 2009-06-11sound: usb-audio: make the MotU Fastlane work againClemens Ladisch
commit 55de5ef970c680d8d75f2a9aa7e4f172140dbd9c upstream. Kernel 2.6.18 broke the MotU Fastlane, which uses duplicate endpoint numbers in a manner that is not only illegal but also confuses the kernel's endpoint descriptor caching mechanism. To work around this, we have to add a separate usb_set_interface() call to guide the USB core to the correct descriptors. commit 6af845e4eb36fb91b322aaf77ec1cab2220a48ad upstream. In snd_free_sgbuf_pags(), vunmap() is called after releasing the SG pages, and it causes errors on Xen as Xen manages the pages differently. Although no significant errors have been reported on the actual hardware, this order should be fixed other way round, first vunmap() then free pages. 2009-03-16sound: virtuoso: revert "do not overwrite EEPROM on Xonar D2/D2X"Clemens Ladisch
commit 6ce6c473a7fd742fdb0db95841e2c4c6b37337c5 upstream. This reverts commit 7e86c0e6850504ec9516b953f316a47277825e33 ("do not overwrite EEPROM on Xonar D2/D2X") because it did not actually help with the problem. More user reports show that the overwriting of the EEPROM is not triggered by using this driver but by installing Linux, and that the installation of any other operating system (even one without any CMI8788 driver) has the same effect. In other words, the presence of this driver does not have any effect on the occurrence of the error. (So far, the available evidence seems to point to a BIOS bug.) Furthermore, it turns out that the EEPROM chip is protected against stray write commands by the command format and by requiring a separate write-enable command, so the error scenario in the previous commit (that SPI writes can be misinterpreted as an EEPROM write command) is not even theoretically possible. The mixer control that was removed as a consequence of the previous commit can only be partially emulated in userspace, which also means it cannot be seen be the in-kernel OSS API emulation, so it is better to revert that change. 2009-03-16sound: usb-audio: fix uninitialized variable with M-Audio MIDI interfacesClemens Ladisch
commit e156ac4c571e3be741bc411e58820b74a9295c72 upstream. Fix the snd_usbmidi_create_endpoints_midiman() function, which forgot to set the out_interval member of the endpoint info structure for Midiman/ M-Audio devices. Since kernel 2.6.24, any non-zero value makes the driver use interrupt transfers instead of bulk transfers. With EHCI controllers, these random interval values result in unbearably large latencies for output MIDI transfers. 2009-02-02sound: virtuoso: do not overwrite EEPROM on Xonar D2/D2XClemens Ladisch
commit 7e86c0e6850504ec9516b953f316a47277825e33 upstream. On the Asus Xonar D2 and D2X models, the SPI chip select signal for the fourth DAC shares its pin with the serial clock for the EEPROM that contains the PCI subdevice ID values. It appears that when DAC registers are written and some other unknown conditions occur (probably noise on the EEPROM's chip select line), the EEPROM gets overwritten with garbage, which makes it impossible to properly detect the card later. Therefore, we better avoid DAC register writes and make sure that the driver works with the DAC's registers' default values. Consequently, the sample format is now I2S instead of left-justified (no user-visible change), and the DAC's volume/mute registers cannot be used anymore (volume changes are now done by the software volume plugin).
