2014-04-14ALSA: hda - hdmi: Fallback to ALSA allocation when selecting CAAnssi Hannula
commit 18e391862cceaf43ddb8eb5cca05e1a83abdebaa upstream. hdmi_channel_allocation() tries to find a HDMI channel allocation that matches the number channels in the playback stream and contains only speakers that the HDMI sink has reported as available via EDID. If no such allocation is found, 0 (stereo audio) is used. Using CA 0 causes the audio causes the sink to discard everything except the first two channels (front left and front right). However, the sink may be capable of receiving more channels than it has speakers (and then perform downmix or discard the extra channels), in which case it is preferable to use a CA that contains extra channels than to use CA 0 which discards all the non-stereo channels. Additionally, it seems that HBR (HD) passthrough output does not work on Intel HDMI codecs when CA is set to 0 (possibly the codec zeroes channels not present in CA). This happens with all receivers that report a 5.1 speaker mask since a HBR stream is carried on 8 channels to the codec. Add a fallback in the CA selection so that the CA channel count at least matches the stream channel count, even if the stream contains channels not present in the sink speaker descriptor. Thanks to GrimGriefer at OpenELEC forums for discovering that changing the sink speaker mask allowed HBR output. 2014-04-14ALSA: hda - Always turn on pins for HDMI/DPTakashi Iwai

We've seen the broken HDMI *video* output on some machines with GM965, and the debugging session pointed that the culprit is the disabled audio output pins. Toggling these pins dynamically on demand caused flickering of HDMI TV. This patch changes the behavior to keep the pin ON constantly. commit 9ddf1aeb2134e72275c97a2c6ff2e3eb04f2f27a upstream. For non-snoop mode, we fiddle with the page attributes of CORB/RIRB and the position buffer, but also the ring buffers. The problem is that the current code blindly assumes that the buffer is contiguous. However, the ring buffers may be SG-buffers, thus a wrong vmapped address is passed there, leading to Oops. This patch fixes the handling for SG-buffers. The interrupt handler azx_interrupt will call azx_update_rirb, which may call snd_hda_queue_unsol_event, snd_hda_queue_unsol_event will dereference chip->bus pointer. The problem is we alloc chip->bus in azx_codec_create which will be called after we enable IRQ and enable unsolicited event in azx_probe. This will cause Oops due dereference NULL pointer. Otherwise it will be returned uninitialized as non-zero after ELD info is got successfully. Some Vaio all-in-one desktop PCs (for example VGC-LN51JGB) are affected by the same issue that caused Vaio Z laptops to become silent: the speaker pin must be connected to the first DAC even though the codec itself advertises flexible routing through any of the DACs. Use the no-primary-hp fixup for choosing the speaker pin as the primary so that the right DAC is assigned on this device. When no valid path is found for this output, this results in dac = 0, thus it creates a hole in dac_nids[]. This confuses is_empty_dac() and trims the detected DAC in later reference. This patch fixes the bug by appending DAC properly to dac_nids[] in via_auto_fill_adc_nids(). Without this patch, if I plug my headphones into the jack on the computer, everything works fine. The computer speakers mute and the audio is played in the headphones. However, if I plug into the docking station headphone jack the computer speakers are muted but there is no audio in the headphones. The problem is that detection of ALC271X relies on spec->cdefine.platform_type, and it's set on alc_auto_parse_customize_define. Move the alc_auto_parse_customize_define and its required fixup setup before the block doing the ALC271X and other codec setup. 2012-10-02ALSA: hda - Workaround for silent output on VAIO Z with ALC889Takashi Iwai
commit e427c2375646789ecd0ccaef1a1e41458559ab2d upstream. On recent kernels, Realtek codec parser tries to optimize the routing aggressively and take the headphone output as primary at first. This caused a regression on VAIO Z with ALC889, the silent output from the speaker. The problem seems that the speaker pin must be connected to the first DAC (0x02) on this machine by some reason although the codec itself advertises the flexible routing with any DACs. This patch adds a fix-up for choosing the speaker pin as the primary so that the right DAC is assigned on this device. 2012-10-02ALSA: hda - Fix Oops at codec reset/reconfigTakashi Iwai
commit 07dc59f0988cb54fd87bd373b3b27eb2401dd811 upstream. snd_hda_codec_reset() calls restore_pincfgs() where the codec is powered up again, which eventually tries to resume and initialize via the callbacks of the codec. However, it's the place just after codec free callback, thus no codec callbacks should be called after that. On a codec like CS4206, it results in Oops due to the access in init callback. This patch fixes the issue by clearing the codec callbacks properly after freeing codec.
