2012-07-14don't pass nameidata to ->create()Al Viro
boolean "does it have to be exclusive?" flag is passed instead; Local filesystem should just ignore it - the object is guaranteed not to be there yet. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-07-14stop passing nameidata to ->lookup()Al Viro
Just the flags; only NFS cares even about that, but there are legitimate uses for such argument. And getting rid of that completely would require splitting ->lookup() into a couple of methods (at least), so let's leave that alone for now... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-01-03switch ->create() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_create() ignores everything outside of 16bit subset of its mode argument; switching it to umode_t is obviously equivalent and it's the only caller of the method Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2012-01-03switch vfs_mkdir() and ->mkdir() to umode_tAl Viro
vfs_mkdir() gets int, but immediately drops everything that might not fit into umode_t and that's the only caller of ->mkdir()... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2011-11-02filesystems: add missing nlink wrappersMiklos Szeredi
Replace direct i_nlink updates with the respective updater function (inc_nlink, drop_nlink, clear_nlink, inode_dec_link_count). Signed-off-by: Miklos Szeredi <mszeredi@suse.cz>
2011-05-28hfs: remove unnecessary dentry_unhash on rmdir, dir renameSage Weil
hfs does not have problems with references to unlinked directories. Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2011-05-26vfs: push dentry_unhash on rename_dir into file systemsSage Weil
Only a few file systems need this. Start by pushing it down into each rename method (except gfs2 and xfs) so that it can be dealt with on a per-fs basis. Acked-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2011-05-26vfs: push dentry_unhash on rmdir into file systemsSage Weil
Only a few file systems need this. Start by pushing it down into each fs rmdir method (except gfs2 and xfs) so it can be dealt with on a per-fs basis. This does not change behavior for any in-tree file systems. Acked-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Signed-off-by: Sage Weil <sage@newdream.net> Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>
2011-03-03hfs: fix rename() over non-empty directoryAl Viro
merge hfs_unlink() and hfs_rmdir(), while we are at it. Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk>

2011-01-07fs: dcache reduce branches in lookup pathNick Piggin
Reduce some branches and memory accesses in dcache lookup by adding dentry flags to indicate common d_ops are set, rather than having to check them. This saves a pointer memory access (dentry->d_op) in common path lookup situations, and saves another pointer load and branch in cases where we have d_op but not the particular operation. Patched with: git grep -E '[.>]([[:space:]])*d_op([[:space:]])*=' | xargs sed -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)->d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\1, \2);/' -e 's/\([^\t ]*\)\.d_op = \(.*\);/d_set_d_op(\&\1, \2);/' -i Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
2009-12-15hfs: fix a potential buffer overflowAmerigo Wang
A specially-crafted Hierarchical File System (HFS) filesystem could cause a buffer overflow to occur in a process's kernel stack during a memcpy() call within the hfs_bnode_read() function (at fs/hfs/bnode.c:24). The attacker can provide the source buffer and length, and the destination buffer is a local variable of a fixed length. This local variable (passed as "&entry" from fs/hfs/dir.c:112 and allocated on line 60) is stored in the stack frame of hfs_bnode_read()'s caller, which is hfs_readdir(). Because the hfs_readdir() function executes upon any attempt to read a directory on the filesystem, it gets called whenever a user attempts to inspect any filesystem contents. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct inode_operations const 2Arjan van de Ven
Many struct inode_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-10-01[PATCH] r/o bind mounts: monitor zeroing of i_nlinkDave Hansen
Some filesystems, instead of simply decrementing i_nlink, simply zero it during an unlink operation. We need to catch these in addition to the decrement operations. 2006-10-01[PATCH] r/o bind mounts: unlink: monitor i_nlinkDave Hansen
When a filesystem decrements i_nlink to zero, it means that a write must be performed in order to drop the inode from the filesystem. We're shortly going to have keep filesystems from being remounted r/o between the time that this i_nlink decrement and that write occurs. So, add a little helper function to do the decrements. We'll tie into it in a bit to note when i_nlink hits zero. 2006-03-28[PATCH] Make most file operations structs in fs/ constArjan van de Ven
This is a conversion to make the various file_operations structs in fs/ const. Basically a regexp job, with a few manual fixups The goal is both to increase correctness (harder to accidentally write to shared datastructures) and reducing the false sharing of cachelines with things that get dirty in .data (while .rodata is nicely read only and thus cache clean) Signed-off-by: Arjan van de Ven <arjan@infradead.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-01-18[PATCH] hfs: cleanup HFS printsRoman Zippel

2005-09-07[PATCH] hfs: NLS supportRoman Zippel
This adds NLS support to HFS. Using the kernel options iocharset and codepage it's possible to map the disk encoding to a local mapping. If these options are not used, it falls back to the old direct mapping. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
