2011-01-07fs: dcache remove dcache_lockNick Piggin
dcache_lock no longer protects anything. remove it. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
2011-01-07fs: dcache scale subdirsNick Piggin
Protect d_subdirs and d_child with d_lock, except in filesystems that aren't using dcache_lock for these anyway (eg. using i_mutex). Note: if we change the locking rule in future so that ->d_child protection is provided only with ->d_parent->d_lock, it may allow us to reduce some locking. But it would be an exception to an otherwise regular locking scheme, so we'd have to see some good results. Probably not worthwhile. Signed-off-by: Nick Piggin <npiggin@kernel.dk>
2010-10-25Coda: add spin lock to protect accesses to struct coda_inode_info.Yoshihisa Abe
We mostly need it to protect cached user permissions. The c_flags field is advisory, reading the wrong value is harmless and in the worst case we hit a slow path where we have to make an extra upcall to the userspace cache manager when revalidating a dentry or inode. 2008-11-14CRED: Wrap task credential accesses in the Coda filesystemDavid Howells
Wrap access to task credentials so that they can be separated more easily from the task_struct during the introduction of COW creds. Change most current->(|e|s|fs)[ug]id to current_(|e|s|fs)[ug]id(). Change some task->e?[ug]id to task_e?[ug]id(). In some places it makes more sense to use RCU directly rather than a convenient wrapper; these will be addressed by later patches. 2007-07-19coda: remove struct coda_sb_infoJan Harkes
The sb_info structure only contains a single pointer to the character device, there is no need for the added indirection. Signed-off-by: Jan Harkes <jaharkes@cs.cmu.edu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-07-19coda: correctly invalidate cached access rightsJan Harkes
Change the epoch value to forces a refresh instead of clearing the cached rights mask and block all further accesses to the object. Signed-off-by: Jan Harkes <jaharkes@cs.cmu.edu> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>
2007-05-21Detach sched.h from mm.hAlexey Dobriyan
First thing mm.h does is including sched.h solely for can_do_mlock() inline function which has "current" dereference inside. By dealing with can_do_mlock() mm.h can be detached from sched.h which is good. See below, why. This patch a) removes unconditional inclusion of sched.h from mm.h b) makes can_do_mlock() normal function in mm/mlock.c c) exports can_do_mlock() to not break compilation d) adds sched.h inclusions back to files that were getting it indirectly. e) adds less bloated headers to some files (asm/signal.h, jiffies.h) that were getting them indirectly Net result is: a) mm.h users would get less code to open, read, preprocess, parse, ... if they don't need sched.h b) sched.h stops being dependency for significant number of files: on x86_64 allmodconfig touching sched.h results in recompile of 4083 files, after patch it's only 3744 (-8.3%). Cross-compile tested on all arm defconfigs, all mips defconfigs, all powerpc defconfigs, alpha alpha-up arm i386 i386-up i386-defconfig i386-allnoconfig ia64 ia64-up m68k mips parisc parisc-up powerpc powerpc-up s390 s390-up sparc sparc-up sparc64 sparc64-up um-x86_64 x86_64 x86_64-up x86_64-defconfig x86_64-allnoconfig as well as my two usual configs. 2006-03-24BUG_ON() Conversion in fs/coda/Eric Sesterhenn
this changes if() BUG(); constructs to BUG_ON() which is cleaner, contains unlikely() and can better optimized away. Signed-off-by: Eric Sesterhenn <snakebyte@gmx.de> Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de>
2006-01-08[PATCH] shrink dentry structEric Dumazet
Some long time ago, dentry struct was carefully tuned so that on 32 bits UP, sizeof(struct dentry) was exactly 128, ie a power of 2, and a multiple of memory cache lines. Then RCU was added and dentry struct enlarged by two pointers, with nice results for SMP, but not so good on UP, because breaking the above tuning (128 + 8 = 136 bytes) This patch reverts this unwanted side effect, by using an union (d_u), where d_rcu and d_child are placed so that these two fields can share their memory needs. At the time d_free() is called (and d_rcu is really used), d_child is known to be empty and not touched by the dentry freeing. Lockless lookups only access d_name, d_parent, d_lock, d_op, d_flags (so the previous content of d_child is not needed if said dentry was unhashed but still accessed by a CPU because of RCU constraints) As dentry cache easily contains millions of entries, a size reduction is worth the extra complexity of the ugly C union. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
