In bugzilla #6941, Jens Kilian reported:
"The function befs_utf2nls (in fs/befs/linuxvfs.c) writes a 0 byte past the
end of a block of memory allocated via kmalloc(), leading to memory
corruption. This happens only for filenames which are pure ASCII and a
multiple of 4 bytes in length. [...]
Without DEBUG_SLAB, this leads to further corruption and hard lockups; I
believe this is the bug which has made kernels later than 2.6.8 unusable
for me. (This must be due to changes in memory management, the bug has
been in the BeFS driver since the time it was introduced (AFAICT).)
Steps to reproduce:
Create a directory (in BeOS, naturally :-) with files named, e.g.,
"1", "22", "333", "4444", ... Mount it in Linux and do an "ls" or "find""
This patch implements the suggested fix. Credits to Jens Kilian for
debugging the problem and finding the right fix.

If anyone needs a fully-functional befs driver, the easiest route to
that would probably be getting Haiku's befs driver to compile in
userland as a FUSE fs.
At any rate, attribute.c can go. It is easy enough to add back in if
anyone ever wants to do the (relativly minor) refactoring nessisary to
get it working.

This is the fs/ part of the big kfree cleanup patch.
Remove pointless checks for NULL prior to calling kfree() in fs/.

We'd updated the prototype and the return value, but not the function
declaration itself.

This fixes up the symlink functions for the calling convention change:
* afs, autofs4, befs, devfs, freevxfs, jffs2, jfs, ncpfs, procfs,
smbfs, sysvfs, ufs, xfs - prototype change for ->follow_link()
* befs, smbfs, xfs - same for ->put_link()

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history,
even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git
archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about
3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early
git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good
infrastructure for it.
Let it rip!
