mkiss: ax0: Trying crc-smack
mkiss: ax0: Trying crc-flexnet
The issue was, that the locking code in mkiss was assuming it was only
ever being called in process or bh context. Fixed by converting the
involved locking code to use irq-safe locks.
Review of other networking line disciplines shows that 6pack, both sync
and async PPP and STRIP have similar issues. The ppp_async one is the
most interesting one as it sorts out half of the issue as far back as
2004 in commit http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/tglx/history.git;a=commitdiff;h=2996d8deaeddd01820691a872550dc0cfba0c37d

commit e805e4d0b53506dff4255a2792483f094e7fcd2c upstream.
rndis_wext_link_change() might be called from rndis_command() at
initialization stage and priv->workqueue/priv->work have not been
initialized yet. This causes invalid opcode at rndis_wext_bind on
some brands of bcm4320.
Fix by initializing workqueue/workers in rndis_wext_bind() before
rndis_command is used.

upstream commit: ec9a1d8c13e36440eda0f3c79b8149080e3ab5ba
This patch adds poisoning and sanity checking to the RX DMA buffers.
This is used for protection against buggy hardware/firmware that raises
RX interrupts without doing an actual DMA transfer.
This mechanism protects against rare "bad packets" (due to uninitialized skb data)
and rare kernel crashes due to uninitialized RX headers.
The poison is selected to not match on valid frames and to be cheap for checking.
The poison check mechanism _might_ trigger incorrectly, if we are voluntarily
receiving frames with bad PLCP headers. However, this is nonfatal, because the
chance of such a match is basically zero and in case it happens it just results
in dropping the packet.
Bad-PLCP RX defaults to off, and you should leave it off unless you want to listen
to the latest news broadcasted by your microwave oven.
This patch also moves the initialization of the RX-header "length" field in front of
the mapping of the DMA buffer. The CPU should not touch the buffer after we mapped it.

upstream commit: a3c0b87c4f21911fb7185902dd13f0e3cd7f33f7
This patch fixes the return type of b43_plcp_get_bitrate_idx_ofdm. If
the plcp contains an error, the function return value is 255 instead
of -1, and the packet was not dropped. This causes a warning in
__ieee80211_rx function because rate idx is out of range.

commit 14a4dfe2ff8c353f59ae8324059ded1cfe22c7d9 upstream.
This patch fixes sporadic firmware restarts when scanning while associated.
The firmware will quietly cancel a scan (while associated) if the dwell time
for a channel to be scanned is larger than the time it may stay away from the
operating channel (because of DTIM catching). Unfortunately the driver is not
notified about the canceled scan and therefore the scan watchdog timeout will
be hit and the driver causes a firmware restart which results in
disassociation. This mainly happens on passive channels which use a dwell time
of 120 whereas a typical beacon interval is around 100.
The patch changes the dwell time for passive channels to be slightly smaller
than the actual beacon interval to work around the firmware issue. Furthermore
the number of allowed beacon misses is increased from one to three as otherwise
most scans (while associated) won't complete successfully.
However scanning while associated will still fail in corner cases such as a
beacon intervals below 30.

commit eb83bbf57429ab80f49b413e3e44d3b19c3fdc5a upstream.
After reports of poor performance, a review of the latest vendor driver
(rtl8187_linux_26.1025.0328.2007) for RTL8187L devices was undertaken.
A difference was found in the code used to index the OFDM power tables. When
the Linux driver was changed, my unit works at a much greater range than
before. I think this fixes Bugzilla #12380 and has been tested by at least
two other users.

commit f1bc4ac61f2c08515afd80c6dc3962aa6d0b138b upstream.
Previously we allocate Rx SKB with GFP_ATOMIC flag. This is because we need
to hold a spinlock to protect the two rx_used and rx_free lists operation
in the rxq.
spin_lock();
...
element = rxq->rx_used.next;
element->skb = alloc_skb(..., GFP_ATOMIC);
list_del(element);
list_add_tail(&element->list, &rxq->rx_free);
...
spin_unlock();
After spliting the rx_used delete and rx_free insert into two operations,
we don't require the skb allocation in an atomic context any more (the
function itself is scheduled in a workqueue).
spin_lock();
...
element = rxq->rx_used.next;
list_del(element);
...
spin_unlock();
...
element->skb = alloc_skb(..., GFP_KERNEL);
...
spin_lock()
...
list_add_tail(&element->list, &rxq->rx_free);
...
spin_unlock();
This patch should fix the "iwlagn: Can not allocate SKB buffers" warning
we see recently.

commit 4018517a1a69a85c3d61b20fa02f187b80773137 upstream.
So I dug deeper into the DMA problems I had with iwlagn and a kind soul
helped me in that he said something about pci-e alignment and mentioned
the iwl_rx_allocate function to check for crossing 4KB boundaries. Since
there's 8KB A-MPDU support, crossing 4k boundaries didn't seem like
something the device would fail with, but when I looked into the
function for a minute anyway I stumbled over this little gem:
BUG_ON(rxb->dma_addr & (~DMA_BIT_MASK(36) & 0xff));
Clearly, that is a totally bogus check, one would hope the compiler
removes it entirely. (Think about it)
After fixing it, I obviously ran into it, nothing guarantees the
alignment the way you want it, because of the way skbs and their
headroom are allocated. I won't explain that here nor double-check that
I'm right, that goes beyond what most of the CC'ed people care about.
So then I came up with the patch below, and so far my system has
survived minutes with 64K pages, when it would previously fail in
seconds. And I haven't seen a single instance of the TX bug either. But
when you see the patch it'll be pretty obvious to you why.
This should fix the following reported kernel bugs:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11596
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11393
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11983
I haven't checked if there are any elsewhere, but I suppose RHBZ will
have a few instances too...
I'd like to ask anyone who is CC'ed (those are people I know ran into
the bug) to try this patch.
I am convinced that this patch is correct in spirit, but I haven't
understood why, for example, there are so many unmap calls. I'm not
entirely convinced that this is the only bug leading to the TX reply
errors.

commit 40a9a8299116297429298e8fcee08235134883f7 upstream.
This patch cleans uCode key table bit map iwl_clear_stations_table
since all stations are cleared also the key table must be.
Since the keys are not removed properly on suspend by mac80211
this may result in exhausting key table on resume leading
to memory corruption during removal
This patch also fixes a memory corruption problem reported in
http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=122641417231586&w=2 and tracked in
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12040.
When the key is removed a second time the offset is set to 255 - this
index is not valid for the ucode_key_table and corrupts the eeprom pointer
(which is 255 bits from ucode_key_table).

We should only tell the hardware its capable of DMA'ing

it is possible a large RX'd frame could have corrupted

commit ca0c7e5101fd4f37fed8e851709f08580b92fbb3 upstream.
This should fix the SW-IOMMU bounce buffer starvation
seen ok kernel.org bugzilla 11811:
http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11811
Users on MacBook Pro 3.1/MacBook v2 would see something like:
DMA: Out of SW-IOMMU space for 4224 bytes at device 0000:0b:00.0
Unfortunately its only easy to trigger on MacBook Pro 3.1/MacBook v2
so far so its difficult to debug (even with swiotlb=force).
We were pci_unmap_single()'ing less bytes than what we called
for with pci_map_single() and as such we were starving
the swiotlb from its 64MB amount of bounce buffers. We remain
consistent and now always use sc->rxbufsize for RX. While at
it we update the beacon DMA maps as well to only use the data
portion of the skb, previous to this we were pci_map_single()'ing
more data for beaconing than what we tell the hardware it can use,
therefore pushing more iotlb abuse.
Still not sure why this is so easily triggerable on
MacBook Pro 3.1, it may be the hardware configuration
tends to use more memory > 3GB mark for DMA.

commit f7cd168645dda3e9067f24fabbfa787f9a237488 upstream.
Like mac80211 did, this driver makes 'clever' use of skb->cb to pass
information along with an skb as it is requeued from the virtual device
to the physical wireless device. Unfortunately, that trick no longer
works...
Unlike mac80211, code complexity and driver apathy makes this hack
the best option we have in the short run. Hopefully someone will
eventually be motivated to code a proper fix before all the effected
hardware dies.

hack. -- JWL)

commit 7d19267b8d1e12c0baebf9be96e04cddffe63f67 upstream
Take care to handle register 0xa228 exactly as in the HAL released by
Atheros. This change is required to make ath5k work again on my system
since commit 2203d6be (ath5k: Misc hw_reset updates), thus fixing a
regression in 2.6.27 and therefore hopefully eligible for inclusion into
a stable release.
v2: Only overwrite initial register values on later revisions of AR5212
chips.
v3: Use standard macros to manipulate the register.

Cumulative patch backporting the following two commits from upstream:
commit 8bdd5b9c6bd53add260756b6673a0545fbdbba21 upstream
Author: Bob Copeland <me@bobcopeland.com>
Based on a patch by Elias Oltmanns, we call ath5k_init in resume even
if we didn't previously open the device. Besides starting up the
device unnecessarily, this also causes an oops on rmmod because
mac80211 will not invoke ath5k_stop and softirqs are left running after
the module has been unloaded. Add a new state bit, ATH_STAT_STARTED,
to indicate that we have been started up.
commit bc1b32d6bdd2d6f3fbee9a7c01c9b099f11c579c upstream
Author: Elias Oltmanns <eo@nebensachen.de>
After a s2ram / resume cycle, resetting the key cache does not work
unless it is deferred until after the hardware has been reinitialised by
a call to ath5k_hw_reset(). This fixes a regression introduced by
"ath5k: fix suspend-related oops on rmmod".

commit 42eb7c644afcdbcd7eac4d862046230856fbf531 upstream.
This patch removes the HT flags from RXON when moving from HT to legacy.
This avoids keeping those flags set and possibly miss configuring firmware.
If we are configured in HT, fat channel: channel 1 above, and move later
to legacy channel 11, we need to clear the FAT channel control flags in
RXON. If we don't, the firmware will understand this as channel 11 above
which is not possible due to regulatory constraints, leading to firmware
crash.

commit 4233df6b748193d45f79fb7448991a473061a65d upstream
As I've reported, ath9k currently fails utterly when fragmentation
is enabled. This makes ath9k "support" hardware fragmentation by
not supporting fragmentation at all to avoid the double-free issue.
The patch also changes mac80211 to report errors from the driver
operation to userspace.
That hack in ath9k should be removed once the rate control algorithm
it has is fixed, and we can at that time consider removing the hw
fragmentation support entirely since it's not used by any driver.
