On most gen2-4 platforms the GTT can be (or maybe always is?)
inside the stolen memory region. If that's the case, reduce the
size of the stolen memory appropriately to make make sure we
don't clobber the GTT.

When we set the valid bit on invalid GART entries they are
loaded into the TLB when an adjacent entry is loaded. This
poisons the TLB with invalid entries which are sometimes
not correctly removed on TLB flush.
For stable inclusion the patch probably needs to be modified a bit.

Atm, we refcount both power domains and power wells and
intel_display_power_enabled_sw() returns the power domain refcount. What
the callers are really interested in though is the sw state of the
underlying power wells. Due to this we will report incorrectly that a
given power domain is off if its power wells were enabled via another
power domain, for example POWER_DOMAIN_INIT which enables all power
wells.
As a fix return instead the state based on the refcount of all power
wells included in the passed in power domain.

Commit "drm/vmwgfx: correct fb_fix_screeninfo.line_length", while fixing a
vmwgfx fbdev bug, also writes the pitch to a supposedly read-only register:
SVGA_REG_BYTES_PER_LINE, while it should be (and also in fact is) written to
SVGA_REG_PITCHLOCK.
This patch is Cc'd stable because of the unknown effects writing to this
register might have, particularly on older device versions.

For reasons I can't claim to fully understand gen4 seems to require
backlight duty cycle setting after the backlight has been enabled, or
else black screen follows. I don't have documentation for the correct
sequence on gen4 either. Confirmed on Dell Latitude D630 and MacBook4,1.

On certain platforms pixel_multiplier is read out in
.get_pipe_config(), but it also gets used to calculate the
pixel clock in intel_sdvo_get_config(). If the pipe is disable
but some SDVO outputs are active, we may end up dividing by zero
in intel_sdvo_get_config().
To avoid the problem simply check for zero pixel_multiplier and skip
the division. Another attempt at fixing this involved populating
pixel_multiplier to 1 even for disabled pipes, but that triggered a
WARN because SDVO_CMD_GET_CLOCK_RATE_MULT command failed and thus
encoder_pixel_multiplier was left at zero and didn't match
pipe_config->pixel_multiplier.
The "divide by pixel_multiplier" operation got introduced here:

Whenever a single nouveau_mc_intr() main gpu irq-handler invocation was
responsible for calling both, the vblank-irq handler (display engine irq)
and kms-pageflip completion handler (from fifo irq), the order of
invocation was wrong. nouveau_finish_flip() was called before
drm_handle_vblank() for the vblank of pageflip completion, so the
emitted pageflip event contained stale vblank count and timestamp
from previous vblank. This caused failure in userspace to timestamp
properly.
Reorder order of invocation of engine irq handlers: Put
NVDEV_ENGINE_DISP always on top, and thereby before NVDEV_ENGINE_FIFO,
so that drm_handle_vblank() gets called to update vblank timestamps
and count before potential pageflip events make use of that
information.
This works on nv-50 and later, where kms-pageflip completion triggers
an irq either after a separate vblank irq, or both pageflip and vblank
trigger one common irq invocation, but never before vblank irqs.

- this is considered a hack, and a better solution should be found

nv04_disp_scanoutpos() must abort to trigger simple timestamping
fallback if vtotal/htotal regs return zero. This happens if the
output isn't a digital output, but a vga analog output, as the
regs don't get initialized in that case.
Fixes timestamping failure on nv-40 and earlier with vga output.

Cards with nv04 display engine can't reliably use vblank
counts and timestamps computed via drm_handle_vblank(), as
the function gets invoked after sending the pageflip events.
Fix this by defaulting to the old crtcid = -1 fallback path
on <= NV-50 cards, and only using the precise path on NV-50
and later.

Atm we set the parent of the dp i2c device to be the correspondig
connector device. During driver cleanup we first remove the connector
device through intel_modeset_cleanup()->drm_sysfs_connector_remove() and
only after that the i2c device through the encoder's destroy callback.
This order is not supported by the device core and we'll get a warning,
see the below bugzilla ticket. The proper order is to remove first any
child device and only then the parent device.
The first part of the fix changes the i2c device's parent to be the drm
device. Its logical owner is not the connector anyway, but the encoder.
Since the encoder doesn't have a device object, the next best choice is
the drm device. This is the same what we do in the case of the sdvo i2c
device and what the nouveau driver does.
The second part creates a symlink in the connector's sysfs directory
pointing to the i2c device. This is so, that we keep the current ABI,
which also makes sense in case someone wants to look up the i2c device
belonging to a specific connector.

it became clear that we need to separate the unload sequence into two
parts:
1. remove all interfaces through which new operations on some object
(crtc, encoder, connector) can be started and make sure all pending
operations are completed
2. do the actual tear down of the internal representation of the above
objects
The above commit achieved this separation for connectors by splitting
out the sysfs removal part from the connector's destroy callback and
doing this removal before calling drm_mode_config_cleanup() which does
the actual tear-down of all the drm objects.
Since we'll have to customize the interface removal part for different
types of connectors in the upcoming patches, add a new unregister
callback and move the interface removal part to it.
No functional change.

Setting the power state prior to restoring the display
hardware leads to blank screens on some systems. Drop
the power state set from dpm resume. The power state
will get set as part of the mode set sequence. Also
add an explicit power state set after mode set resume
to cover PX and headless systems.

We only want to modifiy a single field in the userspace view of the
execbuffer command buffer, so explicitly change that rather than copy
everything back again.
This serves two purposes:
1. The single fields are much cheaper to copy (constant size so the
copy uses special case code) and much smaller than the whole array.
2. We modify the array for internal use that need to be masked from
the user.
Note: We need this backported since without it the next bugfix will
blow up when userspace recycles batchbuffers and relocations.

On non-LLC platforms, when changing the cache level of an object, we may
need to unbind it so that prefetching across page boundaries does not
cross into a different memory domain. This requires us to unbind
conflicting vma, but we did so iterating over the objects vma in an
unsafe manner (as the list was being modified as we iterated).

During resume the intel hda audio driver depends on the i915 driver
reinitializing the audio power domain. Since the order of calling the
i915 resume handler wrt. that of the audio driver is not guaranteed,
move the power domain reinitialization step to the resume_early
handler. This is guaranteed to run before the resume handler of any
other driver.
The power domain initialization in turn requires us to enable the i915
pci device first, so move that part earlier too.
Accordingly disabling of the i915 pci device should happen after the
audio suspend handler ran. So move the disabling later from the i915
resume handler to the resume_late handler.

Apparently it doesn't work. X-tiled self-refresh works flawlessly
otoh. Apparently X still works correctly with linear framebuffers, so
might just be an issue with the initial modeset. It's unclear whether
this just borked wm setup from our side or a hw restriction, but just
disabling gets things going.
Note that this regression was only brought to light with
commit 3f2dc5ac05714711fc14f2bf0ee5e42d5c08c581

This should fix a deadlock that has been reported to us where fan_update()
would hold the fan lock and try to grab the alarm_program_lock to reschedule
an update. On an other CPU, the alarm_program_lock would have been taken
before calling fan_update(), leading to a deadlock.

When we set backlight on behalf of ACPI opregion, we will convert the
backlight value in the 0-255 range defined in opregion to the actual
hardware level. Commit 22505b82a2 (drm/i915: avoid brightness overflow
when doing scale) is meant to fix the overflow problem when doing the
conversion, but it also caused a problem that the converted hardware
level doesn't quite represent the intended value: say user wants maximum
backlight level(255 in opregion's range), then we will calculate the
actual hardware level to be: level = freq / max * level, where freq is
the hardware's max backlight level(937 on an user's box), and max and
level are all 255. The converted value should be 937 but the above
calculation will yield 765.
To fix this issue, just use 64 bits to do the calculation to keep the
precision and avoid overflow at the same time.

Media force wake get hangs the machine when the system is booted without
displays attached. The assumption is that (at least some versions of)
the firmware has skipped some initialization in that case.
Empirical evidence suggests we need to reset the media force wake
request register in addition to the render one to avoid hangs.

There appear to be a crop of new hardware where the vbios is not
available from PROM/PRAMIN, but there is a valid _ROM method in ACPI.
The data read from PCIROM almost invariably contains invalid
instructions (still has the x86 opcodes), which makes this a low-risk
way to try to obtain a valid vbios image.

Testing the update pending bit directly after issuing an
update is nonsense cause depending on the pixel clock the
CRTC needs a bit of time to execute the flip even when we
are in the VBLANK period.
This is just a non invasive patch to solve the problem at
hand, a more complete and cleaner solution should follow
in the next merge window.

Some RV7xx generation hardware crashes after you
raise the UVD clocks for the first time. Try to
avoid this by using the lower clocks to boot these.
