2008-12-04sparc: prepare kernel/ for unificationSam Ravnborg
o sparc32 files with identical names to sparc64 renamed to <name>_32.S o introduced a few Kconfig helpers to simplify Makefile logic o refactored Makefile to prepare for unification - use obj-$(CONFIG_SPARC32) for sparc32 specific files - use <name>_$(BITS) for files where sparc64 has a _64 variant - sparc64 directly include a few files where sparc32 builds them, refer to these files directly (no BITS) - sneaked in -Werror as used by sparc64 o modified sparc/Makefile to use the new names for head/init_task Signed-off-by: Sam Ravnborg <sam@ravnborg.org> Signed-off-by: David S. 2008-09-03sparc32: Kill remaining asm/mostek.h inclusions.David S. Miller
No longer needed. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-09-03sparc32: use RTC subsystemDavid S. Miller
Use rtc subsystem for sparc32 architecture. Actually, only one driver is needed: m48t59 as it supports the most common clocks on sparc32 machines: m48t08 and m48t02. [ Add proper RTC layer calls to set_rtc_mmss() -DaveM ] Signed-off-by: Krzysztof Helt <krzysztof.h1@wp.pl> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-30sparc: Kill EBUS driver layer.David S. Miller
All that remains is the EBUS DMA programming library for sparc64. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Kill now spurious includes of sbus.hDavid S. Miller
In order to make this week I also had to add an include of linux/dma-mapping.h to asm/pci_32.h because drivers/pci/pci.c really depends upon getting this header somehow. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc32: Kill iounit_map_dma_*().David S. Miller
Unused. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Kill sbus_ioremap() and sbus_iounmap().David S. Miller
No more users. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Remove dinky old-style SBUS probing facilities.David S. Miller
No drivers or code uses this stuff any more, every driver has been converted over to OF device probing. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Convert all SBUS drivers to dma_*() interfaces.David S. Miller
And all the SBUS dma interfaces are deleted. A private implementation remains inside of the 32-bit sparc port which exists only for the sake of the implementation of dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Make SBUS DMA interfaces take struct device.David S. Miller
This is the first step in converting all the SBUS drivers over to generic dma_*(). Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2008-08-29sparc: Kill SBUS DVMA layer.David S. Miller
This thing was completely pointless. Just find the OF device in the parent of drivers that want to program this device, and map the DMA regs inside such drivers too. This also moves the dummy claim_dma_lock() and release_dma_lock() implementation to floppy_32.h, which makes it handle this issue just like floppy_64.h does. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2008-04-17Generic semaphore implementationMatthew Wilcox
Semaphores are no longer performance-critical, so a generic C implementation is better for maintainability, debuggability and extensibility. Thanks to Peter Zijlstra for fixing the lockdep warning. 2008-02-08aout: suppress A.OUT library support if !CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUTDavid Howells
Suppress A.OUT library support if CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUT is not set. Not all architectures support the A.OUT binfmt, so the ELF binfmt should not be permitted to go looking for A.OUT libraries to load in such a case. Not only that, but under such conditions A.OUT core dumps are not produced either. To make this work, this patch also does the following: (1) Makes the existence of the contents of linux/a.out.h contingent on CONFIG_ARCH_SUPPORTS_AOUT. (2) Renames dump_thread() to aout_dump_thread() as it's only called by A.OUT core dumping code. (3) Moves aout_dump_thread() into asm/a.out-core.h and makes it inline. This is then included only where needed. This means that this bit of arch code will be stored in the appropriate A.OUT binfmt module rather than the core kernel. (4) Drops A.OUT support for Blackfin (according to Mike Frysinger it's not needed) and FRV. This patch depends on the previous patch to move STACK_TOP[_MAX] out of asm/a.out.h and into asm/processor.h as they're required whether or not A.OUT format is available. 2006-10-08[PATCH] sparc32 rwlock fixAl Viro
read_trylock() is broken on sparc32 (doesn't build and didn't work right, actually). Proposed fix: - make "writer holds lock" distinguishable from "reader tries to grab lock" - have __raw_read_trylock() try to acquire the mutex (in LSB of lock), terminating spin if we see that there's writer holding it. Then do the rest as we do in read_lock(). Thanks to Ingo for discussion... Signed-off-by: Al Viro <viro@zeniv.linux.org.uk> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-06-20[SPARC]: Kill __irq_itoa().David S. Miller
This ugly hack was long overdue to die. It was a way to print out Sparc interrupts in a more freindly format, since IRQ numbers were arbitrary opaque 32-bit integers which vectored into PIL levels. These 32-bit integers were not necessarily in the 0-->NR_IRQS range, but the PILs they vectored to were. The idea now is that we will increase NR_IRQS a little bit and use a virtual<-->real IRQ number mapping scheme similar to PowerPC. That makes this IRQ printing hack irrelevant, and furthermore only a handful of drivers actually used __irq_itoa() making it even less useful. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-04-11[PATCH] No arch-specific strpbrk implementationsKyle McMartin
While cleaning up parisc_ksyms.c earlier, I noticed that strpbrk wasn't being exported from lib/string.c. Investigating further, I noticed a changeset that removed its export and added it to _ksyms.c on a few more architectures. The justification was that "other arches do it." I think this is wrong, since no architecture currently defines __HAVE_ARCH_STRPBRK, there's no reason for any of them to be exporting it themselves. Therefore, consolidate the export to lib/string.c. 2006-03-23[SPARC]: Try to start getting SMP back into shape.Bob Breuer
Todo items: - IRQ_INPROGRESS flag - use sparc64 irq buckets, or generic irq_desc? - sun4d - re-indent large chunks of sun4m_smp.c - some places assume sequential cpu numbering (i.e. 0,1 instead of 0,2) Last I checked (with 2.6.14), random programs segfault with dual HyperSPARC. And with SuperSPARC II's, it seems stable but will eventually die from a write lock error (wrong lock owner or something). I haven't tried the HyperSPARC + highmem combination recently, so that may still be a problem. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-01-19[SPARC]: Add support for *at(), ppoll, and pselect syscalls.David S. Miller
This also includes by necessity _TIF_RESTORE_SIGMASK support, which actually resulted in a lot of cleanups. The sparc signal handling code is quite a mess and I should clean it up some day. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

) From: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> - create one common dump_thread() prototype in kernel.h - dump_thread() is only used in fs/binfmt_aout.c and can therefore be removed on all architectures where CONFIG_BINFMT_AOUT is not available Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <bunk@stusta.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2005-09-11[SPARC]: Fix dot-symbol exporting for good.Al Viro

2005-09-10[PATCH] spinlock consolidationIngo Molnar
This patch (written by me and also containing many suggestions of Arjan van de Ven) does a major cleanup of the spinlock code. It does the following things: - consolidates and enhances the spinlock/rwlock debugging code - simplifies the asm/spinlock.h files - encapsulates the raw spinlock type and moves generic spinlock features (such as ->break_lock) into the generic code. - cleans up the spinlock code hierarchy to get rid of the spaghetti. Most notably there's now only a single variant of the debugging code, located in lib/spinlock_debug.c. (previously we had one SMP debugging variant per architecture, plus a separate generic one for UP builds) Also, i've enhanced the rwlock debugging facility, it will now track write-owners. There is new spinlock-owner/CPU-tracking on SMP builds too. All locks have lockup detection now, which will work for both soft and hard spin/rwlock lockups. The arch-level include files now only contain the minimally necessary subset of the spinlock code - all the rest that can be generalized now lives in the generic headers: include/asm-i386/spinlock_types.h | 16 include/asm-x86_64/spinlock_types.h | 16 I have also split up the various spinlock variants into separate files, making it easier to see which does what. The new layout is: SMP | UP ----------------------------|----------------------------------- asm/spinlock_types_smp.h | linux/spinlock_types_up.h linux/spinlock_types.h | linux/spinlock_types.h asm/spinlock_smp.h | linux/spinlock_up.h linux/spinlock_api_smp.h | linux/spinlock_api_up.h linux/spinlock.h | linux/spinlock.h /* * here's the role of the various spinlock/rwlock related include files: * * on SMP builds: * * asm/spinlock_types.h: contains the raw_spinlock_t/raw_rwlock_t and the * initializers * * linux/spinlock_types.h: * defines the generic type and initializers * * asm/spinlock.h: contains the __raw_spin_*()/etc. lowlevel * implementations, mostly inline assembly code * * (also included on UP-debug builds:) * * linux/spinlock_api_smp.h: * contains the prototypes for the _spin_*() APIs. * * linux/spinlock.h: builds the final spin_*() APIs. * * on UP builds: * * linux/spinlock_type_up.h: * contains the generic, simplified UP spinlock type. * (which is an empty structure on non-debug builds) * * linux/spinlock_types.h: * defines the generic type and initializers * * linux/spinlock_up.h: * contains the __raw_spin_*()/etc. version of UP * builds. (which are NOPs on non-debug, non-preempt * builds) * * (included on UP-non-debug builds:) * * linux/spinlock_api_up.h: * builds the _spin_*() APIs. * * linux/spinlock.h: builds the final spin_*() APIs. */ All SMP and UP architectures are converted by this patch. arm, i386, ia64, ppc, ppc64, s390/s390x, x64 was build-tested via crosscompilers. m32r, mips, sh, sparc, have not been tested yet, but should be mostly fine. From: Grant Grundler <grundler@parisc-linux.org> Booted and lightly tested on a500-44 (64-bit, SMP kernel, dual CPU). Builds 32-bit SMP kernel (not booted or tested). I did not try to build non-SMP kernels. That should be trivial to fix up later if necessary. I converted bit ops atomic_hash lock to raw_spinlock_t. Doing so avoids some ugly nesting of linux/*.h and asm/*.h files. Those particular locks are well tested and contained entirely inside arch specific code. I do NOT expect any new issues to arise with them. If someone does ever need to use debug/metrics with them, then they will need to unravel this hairball between spinlocks, atomic ops, and bit ops that exist only because parisc has exactly one atomic instruction: LDCW (load and clear word). 2005-08-19[SPARC]: Fix weak aliasesAl Viro
sparc_ksyms.c used to declare weak alias to several gcc intrinsics. It doesn't work with gcc4 anymore - it wants a declaration for the thing we are aliasing to and that's not going to happen for something like .mul, etc. Replaced with direct injection of weak alias on the assembler level - .weak <alias> followed by <alias> = <aliased>; that works on all gcc versions. 2005-04-24[SPARC]: More sparc32 ksyms cleanupsTom 'spot' Callaway
The sparc32 ksyms is missing a few more symbols, these are primarily related to SMP, and will be needed as SMP gets beaten back into functionality. Specifically, add __cpu_data (PER_CPU), cpu_online_map, and phys_cpu_present_map. This patch assumes that the earlier "linux-2.6.11-sparc-fixksyms.patch" is applied, otherwise, it will apply with fuzz. 2005-04-16Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
