2013-01-11ARM: OMAP: Fix i2c cmdline initcall for multiplatformTony Lindgren
We only want this initcall to run when the kernel is booted on omap SoCs. Fix the issue by initializing the the initcall from separately for omap1 and omap2+. This fixes the issue for omap2+ multiplatform configs as we are using omap_subsys_initcall there. 2012-10-31ARM: OMAP: Make plat-omap/i2c.c port checks localTony Lindgren
The common code should not have any omap1 or omap2+ specific code, and should not need to call the cpu_is_omap macros. The only remaining user for cpu_is_omap macros is omap_i2c_nr_ports(). We want to remove plat/cpu.h. To do this, let's first split it to private soc.h to mach-omap1 and mach-omap2. We have to keep plat/cpu.h around until the remaining drivers are fixed, so let's include the local soc.h in plat/cpu.h and for drivers still including plat/cpu.h. Once the drivers are fixed not to include plat/cpu.h, we can remove the file. This is needed for the ARM common zImage support. There's no need to keep the device related things in the common i2c.c as omap2+ is using hwmod. Split the code to mach-omap1 and mach-omap2 parts and only leave common code to plat-omap/i2c.c. In fact, the old driver gets removed; I am okay with this approach since the old driver was depending on BROKEN and its limitations made it practically unusable, so people used bitbanging instead. But even if there are users, there is no platform_data or module parameter which would need to be converted. It is just another driver doing I2C transfers, just way better. 2012-10-06ARM: OMAP: convert I2C driver to PM QoS for MPU latency constraintsJean Pihet
Convert the driver from the outdated omap_pm_set_max_mpu_wakeup_lat API to the new PM QoS API. Since the constraint is on the MPU subsystem, use the PM_QOS_CPU_DMA_LATENCY class of PM QoS. The resulting MPU constraints are used by cpuidle to decide the next power state of the MPU subsystem. The I2C device latency timing is derived from the FIFO size and the clock speed and so is applicable to all OMAP SoCs. 2011-11-04ARM: OMAP: I2C: Fix omap_register_i2c_bus() return value on successLaurent Pinchart
Commit 4d17aeb1c5b2375769446d13012a98e6d265ec13 ("OMAP: I2C: split device registration and convert OMAP2+ to omap_device") makes omap2_i2c_add_bus() return a pointer to an omap_device instead on success instead of 0. This breaks the omap_register_i2c_bus() ABI and results in the igep0020 board code detecting an I2C bus registration error when there is none. Fix the problem by using PTR_RET() instead of PTR_ERR() in omap2_i2c_add_bus(). 2011-09-15OMAP: omap_device: when building return platform_device instead of omap_deviceKevin Hilman
All of the device init and device driver interaction with omap_device is done using platform_device pointers. To make this more explicit, have omap_device return a platform_device pointer instead of an omap_device pointer. All current users of the omap_device pointer were only using it to get at the platform_device pointer or struct device pointer, so fixing all of the users was trivial. This also makes it more difficult for device init code to directly access members of struct omap_device, and allows for easier changing of omap_device internals. 2010-12-07OMAP1: I2C: fix device initializationPaul Walmsley
Commit 4d17aeb1c5b2375769446d13012a98e6d265ec13 ("OMAP: I2C: split device registration and convert OMAP2+ to omap_device") broke I2C on OMAP1. The following messages appear at boot: i2c_omap i2c_omap.1: failure requesting irq 0 i2c_omap: probe of i2c_omap.1 failed with error -22 Investigation revealed that a chunk of code is missing from the original plat-omap/i2c.c file which configured the IRQ and base address for the I2C block on OMAP1. Upon adding this back, the OMAP1 I2C block seems to initialize correctly. Thanks to Cory Maccarrone <darkstar6262@gmail.com> for reporting the bug, and apologies for the breakage. 2010-07-26OMAP: PM constraints: add return values; add requesting device param to ↵Paul Walmsley
omap_pm_set_max_dev_wakeup_lat() Add return values to the PM constraint functions. This allows the PM core to provide feedback to the caller if a constraint is not possible. Update the one upstream user of omap_pm_set_max_mpu_wakeup_lat() to add a compatibility wrapper, needed until the driver is changed. Update some of the documentation to conform more closely to kerneldoc style. Add an additional device parameter to omap_pm_set_max_dev_wakeup_lat() to identify the device requesting the constraint. This is so repeated calls to omap_pm_set_max_dev_wakeup_lat() with the same requesting device can override the device's previously-set constraint. Add separate omap_i2c_add_bus functions for mach-omap1 and mach-omap2. Make the mach-omap2 init set the interrupt dynamically to support. This is needed to add support for omap4 in a way that works with multi-omap builds. This will eventually get fixed in a generic way with the omap hwmods. 2010-05-20i2c-omap: add mpu wake up latency constraint in i2cKalle Jokiniemi
While waiting for completion of the i2c transfer, the MPU could hit OFF mode and cause several msecs of delay that made i2c transfers fail more often. The extra delays and subsequent re-trys cause i2c clocks to be active more often. This has also an negative effect on power consumption. Created a mechanism for passing and using the constraint setting function in driver code. The used mpu wake up latency constraints are now set individually per bus, and they are calculated based on clock rate and fifo size. Thanks to Jarkko Nikula, Moiz Sonasath, Paul Walmsley, and Nishanth Menon for tuning out the details of this patch. Updates by Kevin as requested by Tony: - Remove omap_set_i2c_constraint_func() in favor of conditionally adding the flag in omap_i2c_add_bus() in order to keep all the OMAP conditional checking in a single location. - Update set_mpu_wkup_lat prototypes to match OMAP PM layer so OMAP PM function can be used directly in pdata. This patch adds a new command line option "i2c_bus=bus_id,clkrate" into I2C bus registration helper. Purpose of the option is to override the default board specific bus speed which is supplied by the omap_register_i2c_bus. The default bus speed is typically set to speed of slowest I2C chip on the bus and overriding allow to use some experimental configurations or updated chip versions without any kernel modifications. 2008-02-08ARM: OMAP: Add helper module for board specific I2C bus registrationJarkko Nikula
This helper module simplifies I2C bus registration for different OMAP platforms by doing registration in one place only and to allow board specific bus configuration like clock rate and number of busses configured. Helper should cover OMAP processors from first to third generation. This patch just adds the feature and current implementation cleanup and board file modifications will be done in following patches.
