Cleaning up that code touches multiple subsystems, but gets rid of the dependency in the end. The mailbox code moved out from mach-omap2 to drivers/mailbox is an intermediate step and is still omap specific at the moment. 2013-06-11mailbox/omap: move the OMAP mailbox framework to driversSuman Anna
The mailbox hardware (in OMAP) uses a queued mailbox interrupt mechanism that provides a communication channel between processors through a set of registers and their associated interrupt signals by sending and receiving messages. The OMAP mailbox framework/driver code is moved to be under drivers/mailbox, in preparation for adapting to a common mailbox driver framework. This allows the build for OMAP mailbox to be enabled (it was disabled during the multi-platform support). As part of the migration from plat and mach code: - Kconfig symbols have been renamed to build OMAP1 or OMAP2+ drivers. - mailbox.h under plat-omap/plat/include has been split into a public and private header files. 2013-06-11ARM: OMAP2+: mbox: remove dependencies with soc.hSuman Anna
The OMAP mailbox platform driver code has been cleaned up to remove the dependencies with soc.h in preparation for moving the mailbox code to drivers folder. The code relied on cpu_is_xxx/soc_is_xxx macros previously to pick the the right set of mailbox devices and register with the mailbox driver. This data is now represented in a concise format and moved to the respective omap_hwmod data files and published to the driver through the platform data. There is also a conflict generated by automated merge in arch/arm/mach-omap2/drm.c between a bug fix that went into v3.8-rc5 and a different version of the same fix that went into the omap/multiplatform branch. 2013-02-12ARM: OMAP2+: fix some omap_device_build() calls that aren't compiled by defaultPaul Walmsley
Commit c1d1cd597fc77af3086470f8627d77f52f7f8b6c ("ARM: OMAP2+: omap_device: remove obsolete pm_lats and early_device code") missed a few omap_device_build() calls that aren't included as part of the default OMAP2+ Kconfig, omap2plus_defconfig. Ideally, all devices that are present on the SoC should be created by default, and only the corresponding device driver should be configured or deconfigured in Kconfig. This allows drivers to be built as modules and loaded later, even if they weren't part of the original kernel build. Unfortunately, we're not quite there yet. Remove now-obsolete code from arch/arm/mach-omap2/omap_device.c. This mostly consists of removing the first attempt at device PM latency handling. This was never really used, has been replaced by the common dev_pm_qos code, and needs to go away as part of the DT conversion. The most important one is probably, that dma-debug now warns if a dma-handle is not checked with dma_mapping_error by the device driver. This requires minor changes to some architectures which make use of dma-debug. Most of these changes have the respective Acks by the Arch-Maintainers. Besides that there are updates to the AMD IOMMU driver for refactor the IOMMU-Groups support and to make sure it does not trigger a hardware erratum. The OMAP changes (for which I pulled in a branch from Tony Lindgren's tree) have a conflict in linux-next with the arm-soc tree. The conflict is in the file arch/arm/mach-omap2/clock44xx_data.c which is deleted in the arm-soc tree. It is safe to delete the file too so solve the conflict. Similar changes are done in the arm-soc tree in the common clock framework migration. Based on earlier discussions[1] we attempted to find a suitable location for the omap DMA header in commit 2b6c4e73 (ARM: OMAP: DMA: Move plat/dma.h to plat-omap/dma-omap.h) until the conversion to dmaengine is complete. Unfortunately that was before I was able to try to test compile of the ARM multiplatform builds for omap2+, and the end result was not very good. So I'm creating yet another all over the place patch to cut the last dependency for building omap2+ for ARM multiplatform. After this, we have finally removed the driver dependencies to the arch/arm code, except for few drivers that are being worked on. The other option was to make the <plat-omap/dma-omap.h> path to work, but we'd have to add some new header directory to for multiplatform builds. Or we would have to manually include arch/arm/plat-omap/include again from arch/arm/Makefile for omap2+. Neither of these alternatives sound appealing as they will likely lead addition of various other headers exposed to the drivers, which we want to avoid for the multiplatform kernels. Since we already have a minimal include/linux/omap-dma.h, let's just use that instead and add a note to it to not use the custom omap DMA functions any longer where possible. Note that converting omap DMA to dmaengine depends on dmaengine supporting automatically incrementing the FIFO address at the device end, and converting all the remaining legacy drivers. The OMAP watchdog timer driver directly calls a function exported by code in arch/arm/mach-omap2. This is not good; it tightly couples this driver to the mach-omap2 integration code. Instead, add a temporary platform_data function pointer to abstract this function call. A subsequent patch will convert the watchdog driver to use this function pointer. This patch also moves the device creation code out of arch/arm/mach-omap2/devices.c and into arch/arm/mach-omap2/wd_timer.c. This is another step towards the removal of arch/arm/mach-omap2/devices.c.
